Since inception the Foundation has been committed to addressing a broad range of social needs. In recent times it has adopted a policy of concentrating on projects of national and regional significance.
The Foundation was created by a merger of the ANSA Foundation, formed in 1986, to assist charitable causes and the McAL Foundation, formed with similar aims in 1981. The merger was effected on November 17, 1993. A year later Dr. Sabga was responsible for the rejuvenation of the Guardian Neediest Cases Fund, a long-standing charitable project of the Trinidad Publishing Company Limited; publishers of the Trinidad and Sunday Guardian newspapers.
Notable achievements include:
The Foundation is chaired by Mr A Norman Sabga, LLD (Hon) UWI, Chairman and Chief Executive of ANSA McAL.
From 1991 to 2003 the Foundation received 1% of profit of the ANSA McAL Group. By investing this endowment, the Foundation is now self financing, and able to undertake in perpetuity the significant commitment of the ANSA Awards for Excellence programme.
